b. 228-230

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Different accents in A

Long accents in GE

No marks in FE (→EE1)

Short accents in EE2

..

In bar 228 and 230 the absence of accents in FE (→EE1) proves that Chopin added them to A after [FC] had been finished. In GE, and on the basis thereof also in EE1, the marks are standardised – long in GE and short in EE2. In the main text we give the A version with a pair of accents of different length in each of these bars.

b. 228-230

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

As in previous similar passages, in the 2nd half of bar 228 and 230 Chopin did not write accidentals in the R.H. part. This version was repeated by FE1, while in FE2 (→EE) and GE flats were added to the 2nd and 4th quavers (c2 and f3, respectively).

b. 229

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

No markings in FE (→EE1)

   in EE2

Our variant suggestion

..

Chopin probably added a pedal change in this bar to A after [FC], the basis for FE, had been finished. However, both versions can be considered equal, since in similar situations, when the following passage is based on the same chord, Chopin would use a continuous pedal, as in the FE version (→EE1). The pedal markings of EE2 were added on the basis of GE1, yet the  mark was placed inaccurately.

b. 231-232

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A Chopin did not write flats in the 3rd triplet in each of these bars, which was repeated by FE1. In FE2 flats were added only in bar 232, while the notation is fully correct in GE and EE.

b. 232-233

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slur to b. 233 in A (→GE)

Slur to end of b. 232 (literal reading→EE)

..

In FE the slur in bar 232, at the end of a page, suggests that it should be continued, yet there is no ending thereof on the following page. EE considered the slur to be excessively long and ended it on the last quaver in the bar. In the main text we give the unequivocal A slur (→GE).

issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Uncertain slur continuation
