b. 155-156

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Pedal in A (→GE) & EE2

No markings in FE (→EE1)

Our variant suggestion

..

We provide the whole-bar A pedal mark (→GE), the only indication written here by Chopin, as the principal pedal mark. However, as in a similar context in bar 68 Chopin provided two pedalling variants, we suggest the version with a half-bar pedal mark, in this case absent in FE (perhaps due to an oversight), as an alternative solution.

b. 155-159

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slur in A (→GE)

No slur in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the slur added to A (→GE) after [FC] had been finished. In FE (→EE) the slur is absent, as in analogous bars 68-72. See also bars 160-163 and 164.

b. 156-157

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

 & cresc. - - in A, likely interpretation

 & cresc. - - in GE

cresc. - - in FE (→EE)

..

In A the  hairpin's arms are of different length, hence their intended range remains unclear. To the A text we adopt the range marked by the top arm, which was written first. This is the version we give in the main text. However, the version adopted by GE, based on the range of the bottom arm, can be considered an equal variant. In these sources cresc. begins only just in bar 157. The FE (→EE) version is probably also authentic, in which there is only one crescendo indication instead of two, that is cresc. from bar 156.

issues: Scope of dynamic hairpins , Inaccuracies in A

b. 159

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

The first quaver in the last triplet was initially written as g in A (it was certainly supposed to be g). In the final version Chopin decided to shift the change of the middle note of the broken chord to the end of the bar.

b. 160

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

g in A (→GE)

f in FE (→EE)

..

The FE (→EE) version with f as the last quaver in the bar must be a mistake, resulting from the similarity between the alternating figures in bars 160-161.
