b. 98

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Extra slur in sources

No extra slur, our suggestion

..

In the main text we omit the additional 'triplet' slur – cf. General Editorial Principlesp. 16.

b. 100-101

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slur in b. 100 in A & FE (contextual interpretation→EE)

Slur to b. 101 in GE

..

The ending of the last A slur reaches the bar line at the end of a page, which could suggest that it should be continued, and this is how it was interpreted in GE, despite the fact that in bar 101 (on a new page) there is no continuation of this slur. According to us, it is not conveyed by the A notation, not to mention the musical sense, hence in the main text we lead the slur to the last quaver in bar 100. The FE notation is also ambiguous, due to the same reason as in A – the slur in bar 100, at the end of a line, suggests that it should be continued, but there is no continuation in bar 101. The interpretation of EE coincides with our assessment.

b. 101

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

cresc. at beginning of bar in A (→GE)

cresc. mid-bar in FE (→EE)

..

The fact that in FE (→EE) the crescendo begins slightly later could be of an accidental nature or could mean that Chopin added the indication twice – once in A and once in [FC] or while proofreading FE1.

b. 102-104

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In the main text we add a cautionary  to a in bar 102 and to b in bar 104. The latter is also in FE (→EE), perhaps added by Chopin while proofreading FE1 or earlier, to [FC]. In an analogous harmonic context, in A Chopin wrote cautionary accidentals in bar 271, 273 and 275.
Moreover, in bar 104 we add flats to the A-a octave.

b. 105

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A the naturals raising d2 to d2 and d1 to d1 are missing, which is a patent oversight. All editions contain the correct text.
