b. 70

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

 after 9th quaver in A (→GE)

at end of bar in FE (→EE)

..

The earlier pedal release marked in A (→GE) must be Chopin's mistake, probably having resulted from the visible corrections to the L.H. part. In the main text we give the undoubtedly correct FE (→EE) pedalling, compliant with the harmonic course (no change of chord in this half of the bar).

b. 70-71

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

The fourth L.H. triplet was deleted in A and rewritten on the stave below. However, the change rather concerned the rhythm and the way the R.H. part was written, since the pitch of the L.H. notes remained unchanged. According to us, the correction consisted of 2 stages, while the subsequent versions preceding the final text looked like as follows:

b. 70

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

The first quaver in the last triplet was initially written as an a in A. At that time the rhythm of harmonic changes was analogous to bar 69. In the final version Chopin opted for the same rhythm as in the 2nd half of the preceding bar. Traces of changes following a similar direction are also visible in bar 159 and 238.

Slur b-c1 in A (→GE) & EE2

No slur in FE (→EE1)

..

The easiest explanation for the missing additional slur in FE (→EE1) is an oversight by the copyist in [FC] or by the engraver of FE. In EE2 the slur was added on the basis of GE1.

b. 71

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A (→GE1) and FE1 there is no accidental to the b1 crotchet. A cautionary  was added – perhaps at Chopin's request – at the stage of proofreading FE2 (→EE) and independently by GE2.
