b. 1

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

 in FE & EE

in GE

..

In FE we can see here a "zf" marking, which is most probably a distorted version of , which Chopin used most frequently. We reproduce zf only in the graphic transcription (as it is unseen in musical notation), replacing it by  in the content transcription. Such a change was also introduced by EE, while in GE it was replaced by , which was used more frequently.

Our variant suggestion

..

It is possible that  was added to GE by Chopin, hence in the main text we include it in a variant form. However, according to us, using this subtle kind of dynamics in this naturally simple theme seems to be excessive.

b. 33

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

 in FE (→EE)

 in GE

..

The  symbol present in the metronome marking in FE (→EE), corresponding neither to the beat nor to the movement unit (quaver), is most probably a mistake. Such situations occur in other pieces by Chopin as well, cf., e.g. the Andante spianato from Op. 22. Therefore, in the main text we provide , as it was already done in GE.

b. 50

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

..

In FE (→GE) we can see here "zf", which we change to the correct , as it was done in EE. The issue of the Chopinesque notation of forzato and its variants appearing in the sources is discussed in detail in the note in bar 1.
