In the theme and the first variation (bars 33-88) we sort the division into parts and the rhythmic values of longer notes (particularly in the L.H.), which is inconsistent in FE, and often erroneous or vague (both GE and EE corrected some mistakes). Below is the list of changes:
- in bar 39 we extend the sound of the d bass note and simplify its notation;
- in bar 49 we remove the augmentation dot to the f1 crotchet on the 1st beat – present in FE, but removed in GE and EE;
- in bar 54 and 55 we add augmentation dots to the f minims in the L.H. bottom voice – both dots are missing in FE, one in GE;
- in bar 56 we shorten the dotted minim f in the L.H. (found in all sources) to a dotted crotchet, which is more logical in this context;
- in bar 58 we add an augmentation dot to the a1 crotchet in the R.H. (added also in GE) and shorten the dotted f minim in the L.H. (present in FE) to the correct dotted crotchet;
- in bar 83 we remove the double stem of the g2 tone which was also performed in EE;
- in bar 83 in the L.H. we remove the augmentation dot to the f minim – present in FE and GE, yet removed in EE;
- in bar 84 in the L.H. we shorten the f dotted minim – present in FE (→EE) – to a dotted crotchet (which was also performed in GE);
- in bar 85 we add an augmentation dot – overlooked in FE – to the f1minim (which was also performed in GE and EE);
- in the first half of bar 88 we separate the middle voice in the L.H. part.
