The missing slur in bars 43 and 51 is most probably an oversight – by the engraver, or the copyist, or perhaps Chopin. Had Chopin envisioned a different kind of articulation for this figure than in bars 11 and 19, he would have certainly marked it somehow. In PE4 the staccato dots in the L.H. part are mostly invisible – it is only the marks in bars 49 and 55 that are visible, out of which it is only the latter that is clear. This adverse effect resulted from the change of printing technique to lithography; it is noticeable in some impressions of other pieces too.
