In these bars, the pedalling was almost certainly added in the stage of proofreading FE (→EE). It was absent in [A], since Fontana started writing in bar 78 in FC and – most probably after having realised his mistake – he stopped, leaving the first line of the letter 'p'. On the other hand, the likelihood that the FE pedalling could have been entered by mistake is zero, since in analogous bars 93-94 we encounter the same difference between FC and FE. category imprint: Differences between sources; Source & stylistic information issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

The pedalling added by Chopin to FC in bars 102-103 could be inaccurate, as indicated by a comparison with the markings – also Chopinesque – present in analogous bars 6-7. The reason for the inaccuracies may lie in haste, visible, e.g. in the careless handwriting. Taking into account the above, in the main text we suggest the pedalling of bars 6-7, which is better thought out. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions; Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information issues: Authentic corrections of FC |
