Pedalling in FC & GE2

Pedalling in GE1

No markings in FE (→EE)

Pedalling suggested by the editors

The pedalling added by Chopin to FC in bars 102-103 and 110-111 raises some questions about the placement of the second  mark in each pair of these bars. Chopin did not strictly repeat here the pedalling present in analogous bars 6-7, with a typical pedal change on the 3rd beat of bar 6. In the discussed bars, respective  marks are written a crotchet later, that is at the beginning of bars 103 and 111. According to us, it could be Chopin's inaccuracy, since he was adding the marks in haste, as evidenced by careless handwriting and the mistake (corrected) in bar 102, in which  was initially inserted only just at the end of the bar, thus causing the tonic and dominant chords to mix. Taking into account the above, in the main text we suggest the pedalling of bars 6-7, since it is better thought out and was written down more carefully.
In GE1 the FC pedalling in bars 102 and 104 was inaccurately reproduced – the  marks were placed after or under the 3rd chord. In GE2 the inaccurate notation was corrected after FC.
