b. 94

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

..

FE (→EE) feature here an f1-g1 second, twice (as in the previous bar). The mistake was corrected in FED, perhaps by Chopin.

b. 96-97

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

c1 repeated in FC (→GE)

c1 tied in FE (→EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

Both versions may be authentic, and both are musically justified. From the pianistic point of view, repeating c1 seems more natural; on the other hand, the tie could have been overlooked by the copyist due to inattention. Taking into account the above, in the main text we suggest a variant solution.

b. 97-100

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Dashes till b. 100 in FC (→GE)

Dashes till beginning of b. 97 in FE (→EE)

..

Chopin was adding the dashes marking the range of dim. to the end of bar 100; however, it is uncertain which marks are written in his hand – probably already from the third dash, which would be compliant with the notation of FE, and certainly the last 5 dashes (bars 99-100). The version of FE (→EE) may be inaccurate, since dashes are generally added to indications valid clearly longer than the word defining a given indication.

b. 100-101

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

Slur to b. 101 in FC (→GE)

Slur to end of b. 100 in FE (→EE)

..

The longer slur of FC (→GE) resulted from a correction by Chopin, who in FC added an ending of the slur reaching the c1-e1 third.
