b. 77-78

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

..

In the main text we add cautionary accidentals – a  to f1 in bar 77 and a  to e1 in bar 78. The latter was added also in EE.

b. 77-78

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

No markings in FC (→GE)

Pedalling in FE (→EE)

..

In these bars, the pedalling was almost certainly added in the stage of proofreading FE (→EE). It was absent in [A], since Fontana started writing  in bar 78 in FC and – most probably after having realised his mistake – he stopped, leaving the first line of the letter 'p'. On the other hand, the likelihood that the FE pedalling could have been entered by mistake is zero, since in analogous bars 93-94 we encounter the same difference between FC and FE.

b. 80

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

'2' in FC (→GE)

No fingering in FE (→EE)

..

The fingering digit in FC could have been added by Chopin; however, according to us, it cannot be said with certainty, since both Chopin and Fontana wrote similar digits in terms of shape.

b. 80

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

in FC (→GE)

in FE (→EE)

..

We reproduce the grace note in the version of the principal source, that is FC. It certainly corresponds to the performance intended by Chopin, regardless of the kind of notation he used, since he often did not pay great attention to the notation of grace notes, particularly in such obvious situations.

b. 81-84

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

No indication in FC (→GE)

stretto - - in FE (→EE)

..

There are no reasons to doubt the authenticity of stretto - -, which was most probably added in the stage of proofreading FE or to the basis thereof – Chopin most probably added it together with the following cresc. - -, which he also entered into FC. Therefore, we include it in the main text.
