In FE the indication legato was put between the pentagrams. It is unknown whether such placement complies with Chopin's intention or if it is an inaccuracy in the base's reproduction. FE is lacking the dashes determining the crescendo's range, which is supposedly the engraver's oversight. Such errors were quite frequent in Chopin's first prints. Division of the word crescendo into syllables in EE is probably a revision of that edition (cf. bars 25-26), although such a notation can also be found in Chopin's autographs.
