Pedalling

b. 72-73

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

Lack of pedal in FE in bars 72-73 is certainly an oversight.

Lack of pedalling in A (→GE) is rather an inaccuracy of the notation. In A Chopin started writing the third part of the piece without pedalling remarks, the first signs appear only in bar 105 which opens the subsequent page of the manuscript. The appearance of the indications together with the new page, without a visible relation to the music, indicates Chopin's oversight (cf. remarks concerning bars 87-88, 93 and 121). While revising the whole, Chopin added pedalling in bars 12-13 and 94-95, which confirms that the lack of indications in the remaining bars of the segment including bars 83-104 was not intended.

Lack of pedalling in A (→GE) and EE was probably not intended by Chopin. We give the variant proposal of pedalling based on the indications of FE and the marks in analogous bars 1-2 and 83-84.

EE is lacking the pedalling in this bar and the subsequent one.

b. 103-104

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

We add the pedal marks which are absent in A (→GE) and which were included in EE and FE in the same form. Perhaps it was Chopin that corrected the pedalling.
