Issues : Errors of JC

b. 1

composition: WN 17, Polonaise in B♭ major

..

In JC, the note at the beginning of the piece (the upbeat) is notated as a grace note, which is certainly a mistake. It is revealed by both the quaver rest in the R.H., under the grace note which does not make sense, and the compatible version of the remaining sources which have a quaver in that place. The mistake of Ludwika is also revealed by the notation of the Polonaise's incipit in the inventory "Unpublished compositions" she made.

b. 1

composition: WN 37, Lento con gran espressione

No indication in CJ

in EL

..

in A1 is one of the three only verbal indications in b. 1-20 (along with con forza in b. 15 and  in b. 18). The number of other dynamic markings is also significantly lower – see b. 6-7.
The absence of the indication in CJ is an oversight – it is present in CK and IJ, based on [A2], just like CJ in EL is an arbitrary change of Kolberg or the publisher.

Few octaves in JC

From the musical point of view, the version of JC seems to be very dubious: the indication [con] 8 - - - is probably written in a wrong place – it was supposed to include the entire bass progression in bar 4. However, most probably we are dealing here with a misunderstanding of the corrections of the entire introduction (bars 1-8) written in a short cut manner in [AI]. The same applies to the version of EF

In EF there are no rests at the end of bar 4, as the phrase ends with a crotchet (in the parts of both hands).
