composition: Op. 28 No. 19, Prelude in E♭ major

In front of the first R.H. quaver (a2), A and the remaining sources have a (cautionary?) which we omit in the main text as groundless. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

b. 29
|
composition: Op. 10 No 6, Etude in E♭ minor
..
In A and the editions – except for one – there are no naturals before the 1st octave in this bar (nor a cautionary before c2 in the middle of the bar). The harmonic context clearly indicates Chopin's oversight, which is confirmed by his entry in FES. The mistake was overlooked by the revisers until GE5. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Last key signature sign |

b. 29

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

In all sources, a cautionary next to the g (L.H.) was added. We omit this superfluous accidental in the main text. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

b. 31

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
In A1 (→FE→EE) there is a cautionary before the d1 minim. The absence of the sign in GE may mean that Chopin realised that it is superfluous here while writing [A2]. category imprint: Differences between sources |

b. 32-34
|
composition: Op. 25 No 8, Etude in D♭ major
..
The notation of the three-bar chromatic progression does not contain errors in the sources, yet some of the cautionary signs seem to be unnecessary. In the main text we leave only the naturals before d and e in the last triplet of each bar, as these are notes before which one can expect signs in the D major key (in A and FE Chopin omitted only the last of them, before e3 in bar 34, completed in GE1). In A (→GE1) and FE Chopin also added flats before a2 and b2 in bar 33 and a3 and b3 in bar 34. In EE, particularly in GE2 (→GE3), a few bars were added in each bar. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |
