Issues : Errors of A
b. 511-515
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
The overlooked slurs are almost certainly an inaccuracy of notation, both in A (→EE) and FC (→GE1). The slur added in b. 512 (only!) in EE is probably a mistake; just like in FE, the engraver placed slurs in the entire line; however, he did not notice that in FE the line ends a bar earlier than in EE. In the main text we complete the slurring of A; such a procedure was performed also in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Errors of A , Errors of FC |

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

Chopin must have overlooked the arpeggio signs, which is indicated by the arpeggios in analogous b. 553, 555 and 559. The composer overlooked the signs after changing to a new page of A. The arpeggios were already added in GE and EE (in EE continuous, like before). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Errors of A |

b. 706
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
In the main text we give the version of the principal source, i.e. FC (→GE). Although the naturals visible in the copy were almost certainly written by Fontana, the fact that Chopin carefully revised the entire copy allows us to assume that the composer accepted that addition. The version is also supported by a more natural development of the melodic line: in final progressions Chopin uses a rhythmic cell consisting of 3 repeated notes, which in b. 705 awakens expectations of continuation with the use of a chord featuring g2-g3. EE2 (→EE3) arbitrarily added cautionary flats before the discussed notes. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors of A , Fontana's revisions |
