Issues : Omitted correction of an analogous place

b. 52

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

No tie in FE (→GE1,EE1)

Tie in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5), EE2 & written into FED

..

A does not include a tie combining both a1 at the beginning of this bar. Chopin completed this defect in FED and in analogous bar 84 in the proofreading of FE1. The fact of leaving this bar without correction is to be considered Chopin's oversight. A tie was added also by the revisers of GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) & EE2, most probably while comparing two bars.

b. 53

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

No slur in A (→FEGE1,EE1)

Slur in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) & EE2

..

We suggest adding this characteristic for the polonaise cadenza slur in the L.H. It cannot be excluded that Chopin overlooked its completion in this place, as it is present in analogous bar 85 – most probably added by Chopin in the proofreading of FE1. The slur was added in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) and EE2, most probably as a result of comparison with aforementioned bar 85.

b. 61-62

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

The editors' alternative proposition

..

A (→GEFEEE) has two slurs in this bar. In all the analogous places further on in the text (seven in total) the slur running from the 1st note of the bar ends in the subsequent bar. Then, it may be the case that the slurring in bar 61 is an initial version left unchanged due to Chopin's oversight.

d in AI & GE

d in AI & GE

d in FE (→EE)

d after FE (→EE)

..

As was the case with bars 58-60 and 62, Chopin almost certainly forgot here about the  raising d to d in the last quaver, hence it is a d. In this case, however, he did not correct this mistake in FE2 (→EE), hence a  was added only by the reviser of GE. In the main text we give the version with d, confirmed by AI.

b. 66-67

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

No tie to e1 in FE (→GE,EE)

Tied e1 suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we suggest prolonging the e1 quaver in bar 66 to the next bar, like Chopin marked it – probably during the last phase of proofreading – in analogous bars 294-295. Taking into account the fact that this insignificant detail of accompaniment appears two times in total a few minutes apart, we consider inadvertence to be a more likely reason for discrepancies in the notation of analogous bars than an intention to differentiate between those places.
