Issues : Cautionary accidentals

b. 4

composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor

..

The cautionary  to a1 is present only in FE (→EE), perhaps added by Chopin in the stage of proofreading FE. In the main text we also add a  to a in the L.H.

b. 4

composition: Op. 2, Variation IV, primitive version

..

In the main text we add a cautionary  to e1. The flat is present in this figure also in AsI (to the 1st hemidemisemiquaver – see the note above).

b. 5-6

composition: WN 17, Polonaise in B♭ major

..

In JC, there are no flats lowering a and a1 into a and a1. The undeniable oversight of Chopin in [A] (→JC) is revealed by the cautionary  before in bar 7.

b. 5

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In A there is no accidental before the 1st note in the 4th group of demisemiquavers, which should therefore be interpreted as a1. A comparison with analogous b. 1 proves Chopin's mistake; it is also the  before the next a2 that confirms a1 as the intended pitch of that note. The natural was added in FC and FE (→EE); however, it is absent in GE, which is probably an oversight of the engraver.
We omit the cautionary  before a2 in the main text.

b. 6-8

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

..

The cautionary  before e2 at the beginning of bar 6 was added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). In the main text we still add a few cautionary signs in bar 8 – flats before a2 on the 3rd and a1 on the 5th quavers, as well as a  before f2 on the 6th quaver. The flats were already added in GE2 (→GE3GE4), while the first of them also in EE4.
