composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

The starting point of the slur in A cannot be explained either musically or pianistically, hence we can assume an inaccuracy of notation here. The reason for an earlier start of the slur in GE (→FE,EE) is probably a routine approach of the engraver of GE1, although one cannot completely rule out Chopin's possible correction. Anyways, the composer did not question such a slur while proofreading FE1, for example, in the previous bar. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE |

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

On the 2nd and 3rd crotchet FE0 has B-d-g chords. Chopin changed them for the e-g thirds both in FEG (→GE) and in the base texts to FE and EE. Lack of respective change in analogous bar 182 is probably a result of an oversight. category imprint: Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of GE , Authentic corrections of EE |

composition: Op. 25 No 1, Etude in A♭ major
..
Similarly as in analogous bars 1-2, AI has here only an accent under f2 at the beginning of bar 10. Lack of the sign in bar 10 in A (→GE1) seems to be an inaccuracy of notation, corrected – probably by Chopin – in GE1a (→GE2→GE3). After including this correction, the dynamic hairpins correspond to the scheme of analogous bars 1-2, as well as to the signs in FE and EE. In the main text we give the hairpins written in A and added in GE1a. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of GE |

b. 11-12

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

The separated slurs in FE (→EE) are most probably an inaccuracy repeated after the proof copy of GE1. In the very GE1 (→GE2) the slur was corrected (combined) in the last phase of proofreading, perhaps by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE , Authentic corrections of GE |
