Slurs from 2nd quaver in A & GE2

Different slurs in GE1

Slurs from 1. quaver in FE (→EE)

..

The slurs of A in bars 9-11 and 17 (the first), although some of them are written inaccurately (e.g., in bar 9), begin from the 2nd quaver of each half of the bar. In GE1 it is only the slurs in bar 11 that were reproduced in such a way. In FE (→EE) it is the only correct slurs that were considered inaccurate, leading all signs from the 1st quaver. The slurs of A were interpreted correctly only in GE2.

Continuous slur in A (→GE)

Separate slurs in FE (→EE)

..

The separated slurs in FE (→EE) are most probably an inaccuracy repeated after the proof copy of GE1. In the very GE1 (→GE2) the slur was corrected (combined) in the last phase of proofreading, perhaps by Chopin.

b. 22

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

..

In A the naturals raising d notes to d are written only on the 4th beat of the bar. In spite of this, there are no doubts that d is required in the entire 2nd half of the bar. In GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2) a  raising d3 to dat the beginning of the 3rd beat of the bar was added (referring also to d4), but only EE and GE2 include a corresponding sign before the penultimate semiquaver.

Long accents in GE1

Short accents in FE & GE2

Vertical accents in EE

..

Three accents in A are of a different length: the first can be safely assumed to be long, yet the classification of the next two is unclear. We assume that they are long accents, since there are no musical reasons for them to be equal (actually, they are much bigger than the accent in the R.H. in the previous bar). This is how they were interpreted in GE1, which, however, was not reproduced both in FE and GE2. EE used vertical accents, which is quite a frequent revision in that edition.

3 slurs in A

2 slurs in GE1

1 slur in FE (→EE) & GE2

..

The part of the passage performed with the L.H. is provided with three slurs in A, out of which GE1 reproduced only two and FE (→EE) – one. It is hard to assume that Chopin would have commissioned to delete correctly printed slurs: most probably they were overlooked by the engravers. Both overlooked slurs were a part of the indication of the triplets, with the figure 3 related to the slur having also been "lost" in FE (→EE) (the figure 6 on the 2nd beat of the bar was overlooked too). In the main text we reproduce the notation of A.
