FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the main text we reproduce the  sign after A, over the part of the R.H. In the editions it was put between the staves. It is impossible to claim whether the change comes from Chopin, yet the sign placed over the stave seems to be more legible, as it does not pose a risk of assigning it to the semiquavers in the L.H.

in A

in FE (→GE,EE)

We give the time signature's indication after A. Although FE (→GE,EE) has a , it is difficult to assume that the change of time signature was intentional, as in FE the indication  does not appear in any of the Etudes (contrary to the manuscripts), cf. the Etude in C, No. 1, in C minor, No. 4 and C minor, No. 12. This phenomenon is also present in other pieces, even in the most obvious cases, e.g., in the Etudes in F minor, Op. 25 No. 2, in D, Op. 25 No. 8 or in F minor, Dbop. 36 No. 1.

In the main text we suggest an indication composed of the elements whose authenticity seems to be most plausible:  written by Chopin's hand in AI and , which is a natural starting point for cresc. in FE (→GE,EE).

No slur in AI & FE (→GE,EE)

Slur in A

..

An accidental omission of the slur written in A in FE (→GE,EE) seems to be most plausible here.

legatiss. in A

legato in FE (→EE)

legato in GE

..

In the main text we give the legatiss. written in A (in AI this indication is absent). The change to legato in FE (→GE,EE) is probably a mistake. It is not clear whether the notation of A means that the indication is valid from the beginning of the piece or from the beginning of the two-part texture in the R.H. According to us, it is the second possibility that is more plausible.
