b. 172-173

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A (→GE) and FE there are no flats to the 2nd quaver in each of these bars. Chopin's patent oversight – flats are written next to the g grace notes – went unnoticed by the revisers of GE and FE and by Chopin himself while he was proofreading FE1 and FE2.

b. 172

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

in A (→GE)

No marking in FE (→EE)

..

Chopin almost certainly added  to A after [FC] had been finished. This is supported by the absence of four other dynamic indications in this and the previous sections in FE –  in bar 164 and 168 and cresc. - - in bar 174 and 178.

b. 172-177

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

No slurs in A (→GE)

Slurs in FE (→EE)

..

The L.H. slurs in bars 172-173 and 176-177 were added – almost certainly by Chopin – at the stage of proofreading FE1 or earlier to [FC].

b. 172

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

..

In FE the  raising e3 to e3 was placed only just before the 8th semiquaver, which is a mistake. The accidental overlooked before the 5th semiquaver was added both in GE and EE. We also add it in the main text; moreover, we omit the already superfluous accidental in the 2nd half of the bar. We also add a cautionary  to b1 in the L.H. chord.

b. 172-174

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No slurs in A

Slurs in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

Leaving analogous R.H. quaver figures without slurs in bar 172 and 174 seems to have been intended by Chopin, hence in the main text we keep this notation. However, an oversight cannot be completely ruled out, hence the version of the editions featuring slurs can be considered an acceptable variant.
