Issues : Errors of FC

b. 29-30

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

Shorter slur in FC (→GE1)

Longer slur in FE & GE2 (→GE3)

Two slurs in EE

..

Lack of ending of the slur in FC (→GE1) is probably an oversight of the copyist – in FC bar 29 is at the end of the line. The divided slur of EE may, however, mean that the slurring in the base text to this edition was unclear too. In the main text we give the undisputed slur of FE (same as in the previous, analogous phrase, the placement of the slur under the notes is certainly an arbitrary decision of the engraver).

b. 29-32

composition: Op. 28 No. 19, Prelude in E♭ major

cresc. - - - in A (→FEEE) & GE2 (→GE3)

No indication in FC (→GE1)

..

The missing cresc. - - - indication in FC (→GE1) is an oversight of the copyist – see the note in b. 28. The indication was added in GE2 (→GE3) presumably on the basis of FE.

composition: Op. 28 No. 16, Prelude in B♭ minor

No slurs in FC (→GE) & EE

Slur in bar 29 in FE

..

In the main text we give the two L.H. slurs beginning in the 2nd half of b. 29 after A. None of the remaining sources reproduced them faultlessly.

b. 30

composition: Op. 25 No 5, Etude in E minor

..

The traces, visible in FC in the part of the L.H., show that the copyist initially wrote here the chords from bar 31, which, after having noticed his error, he erased and replaced with the correct ones.

b. 30

composition: Op. 30, Mazurka in D♭ major

..

In FC Chopin deleted all three L.H. chords written by Fontana and replaced them with new ones. The reason was a mistake by the copyist, who wrote g as the bottom note of the chords thrice (instead of f).
