b. 4

composition: Op. 25 No 3, Etude in F major

..

EE1 omitted the bass clef at the end of the bar. This patent error, frequent in Chopin sources, was already corrected in EE2 (→EE3).

b. 4

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

..

In FC, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th group of semiquavers are written in an abbreviated manner as repetition of the first. This notation – certainly drawn from [A] – undoubtedly means repetition of genuine pitch of the sounds from the 1st group and not of the notes themselves without accidentals, which was initially not understood in any of the first editions (FE, EE1, GE1). The necessary sharps, single and double, were added only in EE2 (→EE3) and GE2 (→GE3).

b. 4

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

..

FE, EE1 and GE1 misinterpreted the abbreviated notation of FC and of the remaining Stichvorlage manuscripts, giving the 2nd, 3rd and 4th groups of semiquavers without any accidentals. The mistake was corrected in EE2 (→EE3) and GE2 (→GE3). Similarly in almost all analogous places – cf. bars 8, 20 and 36, as well as 12 and 40.

b. 4

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

No fingering in FC (→GE) & EE

Fingering in FE

..

The fingering under the first three semiquavers in the bar was added by Chopin most probably at the time of proofreading FE.

b. 4

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

No fingering in FC (→GE) & EE1

Fingering in FE & EE2 (→EE3)

..

Chopin added the fingering digit over the last semiquaver probably in the proofreading of FE. The same digit added in EE2 (→EE3) is most probably an editorial revision, introduced probably on the basis of FE.
