Issues : No pedal release mark
b. 46
|
composition: Op. 22, Polonaise
..
The missing mark in FE must be considered an inaccuracy, since due to the harmonic change on the 3rd beat of the bar, one cannot repeat here the whole-bar pedalling from the two previous bars. Both GE and EE failed to notice this subtlety: in both cases a mark was added at the end of the bar. In the main text we suggest releasing the pedal before the 3rd beat of the bar, as indicated by Chopin in analogous b. 42. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , No pedal release mark |

composition: Op. 28 No. 16, Prelude in B♭ minor
..
The omission of the mark at the end of the Prelude is quite frequently encountered in Chopin's pieces and almost certainly not accidental – cf. the ending of the Prelude No. 7 in A Major. The mark added in EE is therefore certainly inauthentic and inconsistent with Chopin's intention. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , No pedal release mark |

b. 47
|
composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major
..
The pedalling added by Chopin in a proofreading of FE is inaccurate – the mark is between the first two quavers, so we do not know which one it concerns (there is no mark at all). In GE and EE the mark was moved (in a different way), so that the moment of depressing the pedal did not raise major doubts – both solutions may be considered as justified suggestions of guessing Chopin's intention. In the main text we prefer the interpretation adopted in EE, as in Chopin's manuscripts the arrangement of the mark before the note is much more frequent than after it (most frequently it is certainly under the note). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Authentic corrections of FE , No pedal release mark |

composition: Op. 25 No 1, Etude in A♭ major

In AI there are no pedalling marks in these bars. The absence of cancelling the pedal taken at the beginning of bar 44 is not surprising in the original, shorter version of the ending (see another note to bars 48-49). Holding the pedal until the end of the piece is, however, possible also after considering the ending written in AI, so that the absence of indications in this autograph does not have to be considered as an oversight. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: No pedal release mark |

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

In A the pedalling ends on the mark at the beginning of this bar. The mark added in FE (→GE,EE) is probably a result of Chopin's proofreading. category imprint: Differences between sources |
