In FE (→GE1), the top note of the 10th semiquaver is an a2 (with a ); ais then restored with a sharp at the beginning of the 4th beat in the bar. The unequivocal mistake of the engraver is confirmed by corrections in three out of four pupils' copies – FES, FEJ and FEH. Respective revisions were introduced also in EE and subsequent GE – in GE2, the erroneous  was changed to a , whereas in EE and GE3, both marks were removed.

In particular sources, dynamic markings in those bars differ significantly. The version of A reproduced – despite various inaccuracies - in GE (→FEEE) was later fundamentally changed, which can be seen in energetic deletions and additions in teaching copies and FEFr.

The editors' proposal

We perceive the indication  in bar 50, added by Chopin in the three teaching copies and written into FEFr, to be part of a definitive change of the dynamic concept in several fragments of the Nocturne (cf. bars 25-26, 45-46, 52). The   noted by Franchomme in FEFr naturally supplements that change.

The f3 note, present in FE (→GE,EE) as the 6th semiquaver of the bar, interferes with the regularity of the figuration and is most probably erroneous. It is confirmed by a most probably Chopinesque correction in FEJ.
