b. 521-522
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
A (→FC→GE1) includes a cautionary before the lowest note of the 1st chord, a, in both bars. FE (→EE) and GE2 (→GE3) omitted that in b. 522. In the main text we do not include any of those unjustified accidentals. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , FE revisions |

b. 606-607
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
Just like in b. 23-24, in FE (→EE) this pair of bars was replaced with a double bar with a two-bar rest marked with the digit 2. In GE1 the bars were not combined, yet in each of them both rests were provided with the digits 1. In the main text we preserve the notation of A (→FC), restored also in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , FE revisions |

b. 644-645
|
composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor
..
The EE pedalling, however formally correct, raises doubts as for its singling out of the third crotchet in b. 643, which in this tempo is difficult to perform and sonically unjustified. In FE pedal release in b. 645 is surprising as it contradicts the pedaling technique leading to the cumulation of sound of the subsequent chords, which was commonly used by Chopin at the end of his works (but not only there). Pedalling in GC (→GE) must have been omitted (cf. annotation to bars 632-634). For the main text we adopt the pedalling based on FE but without in b. 645, whose authenticity we doubt. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: FE revisions , No pedal release mark , Errors of GC |

b. 722-723
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
The slur of A is most probably unfinished due to ink flow problems; however, it is unclear where it should end. Two possibilities are involved: the beginning of b. 723, which is supported by the slurs in the analogous situations in b. 718-719, 758-759 and 762-763, or the end of b. 722, as it was interpreted by the copyist and which is indicated by the bend of the right-hand ending of the slur (or its visible, written part). In the main text we adopt the former, yet we consider the latter to be equivalent. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , FE revisions , Fontana's revisions |

b. 777-779
|
composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor
..
Just like in the previous whole-bar rests, all editions except for GE2 provided the rests in b. 777 and 779 with digits 1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , FE revisions |
