EE1 - First English edition

Publisher: Wessel & Co
Date: IV 1836
Title: Souvenir de la Pologne, | 4e. Recueil de Quatre Mazurkas, || No. 3
Dedication: Monsieur le Comte de Perthuis

In EE1, the text of FE1 was reproduced with small inaccuracies and with certain changes and additions usually made, usually on the basis of comparing analogous places (e.g.  in bar 34). In some situations it is not obvious whether the versions of EE1 result from the engraver's inaccurate rendition of the text or from revisions, e.g. a slur in bar 33 or  in bar 35. Chopin did not participate in the preparation of EE1.

EE1 displays most of the typical features of Wessel's publications: notation of grace notes and minims or an arbitrarily added title of the entire opus 24. Also, due to the fact that the text is printed quite densely, some long accents or even hairpins   have the form of ordinary short accents (e.g. in bars 25-27).

EE2. Beginning from 1845, subsequent impressions of EE were published with minor changes in the Mazurka in C no. 2 and B flat no. 4. Due to the fact that an individual title page of the opus was replaced with a collective one, the dedication was omitted in EE2. As no changes were introduced to the musical text of the Mazurka in A flat major, we do not list EE2 as a separate source for that Mazurka. Images of the pages with the Mazurka in A flat major in the copy of EE2 can be viewed as the final pages of the Mazurka in C major.
