The missing hairpin is certainly a mistake of the engraver of GE1, who perhaps omitted the sign, not knowing where to put it (it is practically impossible to convey the notation of A in print). According to us, the following misunderstanding also cannot be excluded: the engraver interpreted the bottom, clearer arm of the hairpin as a slur. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

Contrary to bar 19, in which the staccato dot is very clear in A and which was included in GE2, in bars 20-22, the presence of the dot in A may be suspected only in bar 21. A possible sign is, however, barely visible, so that none of the editions conveyed it. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

It is unclear which accents Chopin meant in these bars: those in bars 23-24 may be considered both long and short, while the accent in bar 25 is rather short. Due to the very last accent, in the main text we give three short accents. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Long accents |

The accent in A in bar 23 is not a typical long accent, yet the musical context and analogy with the next bar encourage us to consider it a long one. The missing signs in FE (→EE) may be explained with an oversight of the engraver; however, it is also possible that the signs were added in the last stage of proofreading of GE1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in GE |
