EE2 - Revised impression of EE1

Publisher: Ashdown & Parry
Date: 1864
Plate number: W & Co.No.1647.
Title: "Les Favorites" Deux Polonoises || No. 2
Dedication: J. Dessauer

EE2 restored the previously omitted dedication, by placing it on the right hand side above the note text at the beginning of the first Polonaise.

The revisers corrected the majority of mistakes and inaccuracies present in EE1, generally comparing the notation of analogous bars, among others:

  • the pedalling in bars 3-4 was added;
  • necessary accidentals were added, e.g., a  raising g1 to g1 in bar 15 and c1 to c1 in bar 28;
  • cautionary accidentals were added, e.g., a  before a1 in bar 15 or a  before d1 in bars 74 and 78;
  • a slur in bar 39 and 145-146 was added, as well as a tie of g in bar 137;
  • staccato dots and a slur were added in bar 49;
  • an accent was added in bar 57;
  •  in the repetition of bar 60 was added;
  • the erroneous signs before the chords in bars 73 and 77 were corrected;
  •  in bars 107 and 155 was added.

At the same time, a few arbitrary modifications were performed:

  • a number of unjustified cautionary accidentals were added, e.g., flats before g2 in bar 34 and g in bar 35;
  • the seventh at the end of bar 38 was changed to an octave;
  • b note was added on the last quaver of bar 61 and analog.

Many of the above changes were probably drawn from GE2.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a later impression, already endorsed by Wessel's successor, the Ashdown & Parry company. The changes with respect to the original impression of Wessel (a copy of which the editors of mUltimate Chopin did not find) most probably concerned only the details of the cover – above all, the name of the company was updated.

The visible in the presented copy annotations made in pencil are of no source value.
