Issues : Omissions to cancel alteration

b. 17-18

composition: Op. 25 No 6, Etude in G♯ minor

..

In FC (→GE1) and FE there are no sharps returning d2 and c2 in the last group in bar 17 and c2 at the end of bar 18. EE and GE2 (→GE3) include the correct notation, which, in both cases, is a result of an editorial revision – in EE it is likely, in GE2 – certain.

b. 17

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

In A (→GE) Chopin overlooked the  returning bin the last crotchet in the bar. The addition of the sign in FE (→EE) may be assigned both to Chopin and a revision of the editor.

 c2 in CLIFE (→GE,EE

No  c2 in Ap

In the sources one or both naturals before the a1-cthird were omitted. Lack of the  before a1 (in all sources) is a patent error. What is interesting is the fact that the defect was not corrected in GE and EE4 despite adding a cautionary  before a2. In turn, lack of the  returning cin Ap, although most probably incidental, leads to a version with c2, which, from the harmonic point of view, is not impossible.

b. 18

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

No accidental in A

Natural in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Lack of the  returning is most probably Chopin's oversight here. The composer's concentration may have decreased when, after the chromatised bar 17, he reached the diatonic progression in the main key. In any case, the accidental added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE) must be considered to be binding. Similarly in bar 58.

b. 18

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

..

A has no  lowering d1 to d1 on the 3rd beat. The undoubted Chopin's mistake was corrected already in FE1, possibly at his direction.
