b. 171

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

No quaver f2 in AsI

Quaver f2 in A (→GEFE,EE,FESB)

..

The version of AsI must be earlier, which is probably to be seen in clarinet I too – it seems that the 4th quaver was added later (along with , which was then deleted).

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

No ornament in AsI & A (→GEEE,FESB)

in FE

..

Chopin added the mordent over the 1st note while proofreading FE. An ornament – , which is often tantamount to  in Chopin's works – is also in the flute part in AsI.

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

In the manuscripts there is no  restoring e2 at the end of the bar. Chopin's oversight was already corrected in GE1 and the remaining editions. In the main text we have already added a cautionary  to e3 (it is also in GE3).

In AsI the top note of the 2nd L.H. chord is written down as f1. In this manuscript, there are no more accidentals in this bar, which is a patent mistake, resulting from the draft nature of AsI. In A, Chopin replaced f1 with e1 and remembered to restore d1; however, he overlooked the fact that it was also e1 on the 4th quaver of the bar that should be restored. This mistake was already corrected in GE1. Consequently, the notation is correct in all editions.
