In AsI, Af and A (→GE1→EE1→EE2) there is no  lowering c2 to c2. Chopin's patent oversight was corrected by FE1, GE2 (→GE3,FESB) and EE3.

In the version of AsI and A (→GE→FESB) the dot prolonging g1 refers to the quaver and indicates that it should be held to c2 (actually to g1, which must be played again). In the version of FE1 and EE this dot refers to – also or only – the semiquaver, as a result of which the next note must be shortened. It is difficult to say whether the emergence of the other version in FE1 resulted from Chopin's proofreading or from the interpretation of the slightly misleading Chopinesque notation by the engraver or reviser, as in EE.

In accordance with the General Editorial Principles, p. 16, in the main text we omit the 4 slurs present in the majority of the sources; these slurs are part of the triplet markings, and they unnecessarily overlap the articulation slurs of the same range. The slurs were also omitted by FESB.

In the main text we add a cautionary  to F. The accidental was also added by FE (it cannot be ruled out that at Chopin's request) and by EE3, probably on the basis of a comparison with FE.

The meaning of the slur, which in A clearly concerns the top L.H. voice, is unclear in GE1 (→GE2) – one can see it as a slightly too short tie to the F crotchet at the end of the 1st beat of the bar or an inaccurate slur encompassing three thirds in the top voice. The first interpretation was adopted by FE1 (→FE2) and EE, while the second – by FESB. In GE3 the slur combines the F crotchet with the c-e quaver. In the main text we reproduce the notation of A, confirmed by an analogous figure in the next bar.
