Issues : Authentic corrections of FE

The AsI version corresponds closely to the orchestra part. In the version prepared for printing, Chopin moved these bars an octave lower, presumably to preserve the ascending sequence of these orchestral interludes. While proofreading FE1 this fragment was modified once again by removing the octave doublings of two bass notes, D category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

In FE1, there are 3 crotchets in the bottom voice, which is a mistake (we reproduce them in our system in the "transcript" version only), which was corrected in FE2 by adding a quaver beam combining all 3 notes. We give this version, probably the latest authentic one, in the main text. See also the note at the end of the bar. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Authentic corrections of FE |

The version without f2, introduced – most probably by Chopin – at the stage of proofreading FE, is also a version that was entered into AsI, in which the note was also removed (deleted, like f in the L.H. on the same quaver). Therefore, if the correction to AsI preceded the preparation of A, we are dealing with Chopin's hesitation, who changed his mind on the presence of this note three times. Another possibility would be the initial version having been erroneously entered into A. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information |
