Wedges instead of dots over the octaves and the sequence of L.H. quavers played over the R.H. must have resulted from a revision by the engraver of GE1, who unified these marks in the entire finale of the Variations. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Wedges |

The slur under the last three quavers of the R.H. bottom voice added in GE (→FE,EE) is questionable, as far as its possible authenticity is concerned. The slurring of this bar could actually be considered incomplete; however, a slur of such range does not correspond to any tangible structural unit (motif), while legato articulation is indicated in the sources of the orchestral part for the entire 6-note motif of the bassoon I from the 2nd quaver in the bar to the beginning of bar 355. According to us, the slur could have resulted from a misunderstanding in interpreting A or an entry in the proof copy of GE1 (perhaps Chopinesque). Taking into account the above, we do not include this slur in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

The version of A must be erroneous, which is indicated by a comparison with analogous bar 342, the text of AsI and probably Chopinesque proofreading of FE2. An octave sign was also added in GE2 (→GE3,FESB) and EE3. If – which is likely – the change in EE3 was introduced on the basis of a comparison with FE, it means that a copy of FE2 was used. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Errors of A , Authentic corrections of FE |

The omission of the hairpin coupled with the cresc. indication was an arbitrary decision of the engraver of GE1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

The dots having been replaced with wedges was an arbitrary decision of the engraver of GE1 – see bars 271-272. The absence of a dot in A over the penultimate quaver probably resulted from ink stoppage. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Wedges |
