  b. 14

2 slurs in FE1 (→GE)

1 slur in FE2 (→EEW)

The double slurs of FE1 (→GE) in bars 14 and 16 are probably remaining elements of the initial, shorter slurs. The longer slur could have been added still in [A] or – which is more likely, according to us – only just in the stage of proofreading FE1. Anyways, the removal of the short slur in bar 14 in the stage of proofreading FE2 (→EEW) proves that the aim of the changes was one longer slur, and the fact that the initial version (or its fragments) was not removed can be attributed to Chopin's or the engraver's inattention.
