b. 156-157
|
composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor
..

b. 158-161
|
composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor
..
Having returned to the key of E major at the beginning of b. 158, Chopin inserted and then deleted in A the naturals to a in this bar (in the right and left hands) and to a1 in b. 159. By contrast, he left the cautionary to a2 in the R.H. in b. 161. This version was repeated by all editions. In the main text we add cautionary naturals to a1 in b. 159 and a2 in b. 160-161 and cautionary flats to the L.H. e1/2/3 notes in b. 158-161. category imprint: Editorial revisions; Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information issues: Cautionary accidentals , Deletions in A , Last key signature sign |

b. 170
|
composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor
..
In the sources, there is a in the middle of the bar before the bottom note of the a2-a3 octave. In the main text we omit this unnecessary accidental, in accordance with the way in which such a combination of a grace note and the following note at the same pitch was usually written down by Chopin. category imprint: Editorial revisions issues: Cautionary accidentals |

b. 198

..
In the main text, we omit the that appears in all sources and is unnecessarily repeated before f1 in the 2nd half of bar. category imprint: Editorial revisions issues: Cautionary accidentals |

b. 225-227
|
composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor
..
In the main text we add a cautionary to a1 in b. 225. A respective accidental in b. 227 was already added by FE (→GE,EE), most probably at Chopin's request – cf. b. 217-219, in which Chopin wrote this in A the second time, i.e. in b. 219. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Cautionary accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE |
