No slur in A (→FE)

g1-f1 slur in GE & EE

..

The fourth slur, added by GE and EE, almost certainly resulted from an arbitrary revision, frequently encountered in Chopin's pieces; it consists in 'completing' slurs between the given chords – for example, if, like here, 3 slurs linked two four-note chords, it would be considered a mistake, and the 'missing' slur would be added (cf., e.g. the Mazurka in D, Op. 33 No. 3, b. 8-9 and analog. or in B, Op. 41 No. 2, b. 4-5 and analog.).

b. 251-255

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

We keep the notation of A (→FE), where the accidentals in b. 251 for the R.H. part are then not repeated before the same L.H. notes. An analogous situation is to be found in b. 255. In A one can even see that Chopin deleted all accidentals that had been written in those places – four in b. 251 and the   to e in b. 255. GE and EE added the accidentals, hence the L.H. has as many accidentals as the right one.

b. 252

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

Wedge in A (→FEEE)

Dot in GE

No mark in GE1a

..

In Breitkopf & Härtel publications, an authentic wedge would often be arbitrarily replaced by a staccato dot. The absence of the mark in GE1a is most probably an oversight by the engraver.

b. 256

..

A (→FE) did not restore the bass clef before the chords. Chopin's mistake was corrected both by GE and EE.
