b. 102-104

Rests on 6th beat in A

No rests in FE (→GE,EE)

In the main text, we give the simplified notation of FE (→GE,EE). It does not seem that the rests were being removed; however, Chopin did not question this notation while proofreading FE (twice). The notation of A, although justified by the voice leading, constitutes a superfluous complication in this layout. In analogous b. 202-204, the notation of the entire L.H. part on the bottom stave allows for all the rests to be written down without difficulties.
NB. Such a score-like accuracy is quite rare in Chopin's notation; he would generally care for transparency, avoiding rests of formal nature – cf., e.g. the notation of the quaver motifs in the 1st theme of the Ballade, b. 8, 10 and analog. (on this page b. 94 and analog.).
