b. 225

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Minim in FE (→EE)

Dotted minim in GE

..

The missing dot next to the b minim in FE (→EE) is probably an oversight by the copyist or the engraver (cf. b. 166). However, the dot is also absent in AImaz, which, in case of an alternative filiation, may indicate that [A2] did not include a dot.

b. 227-228

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

..

In FE b. 227 closes the line, while the ending of the slur clearly suggests that it should be continued, which is not confirmed by the slur in b. 228, which begins from the 1st note. We interpret it as separate slurs, which is compliant with the notation of GE and which was interpreted as such in EE, based on FE.

b. 258-260

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Slur to e4 in GE

Slur to c4 in FE, literal reading

No slur in EE

..

In FE b. 260 opens a new line, in which the slur from the preceding bars is not continued, although its ending in b. 259 clearly indicates that it should be continued. It is difficult to say whether this inaccuracy was related to the fact that EE omitted the slur. In the main text we give the slur of GE, which is certainly correct.

b. 268-273

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

..

As before, in FE (→EE) the octaves at the beginning of b. 268-271 and on the 2nd beat of b. 272-273 are written in a way that an entire octave is encompassed with the stem of the bottom voice quaver, and it is only the top note that is provided with an additional crotchet stem. It must be a mistake, which is evidenced by the dots prolonging both notes of the octaves in b. 270-273. To the main text we adopt the notation of GE, which is undoubtedly correct.

b. 294

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Crotchet f1-f2 in GE

Crotchet f2 in FE (→EE)

Dotted crotchet f1-f2, our alternative suggestion

..

Like in analogous b. 61, in the main text we give the notation of GE, which is undoubtedly correct. In the suggested alternative version, the notation was brought into line with the authentic notation of subsequent bars, since there are no visible reasons to differentiate between the rhythmic values of the top and bottom notes of this octave.
