  b. 113-124

In comparison with b. 83-102, the staccato dots (as well as accents) are less carefully marked here (there are many omissions). It mainly concerns GE, which also distinguishes the discussed bars from the aforementioned ones, in which the notation of GE was almost flawless. The absence of manuscript bases for the editions does not allow us to determine the reasons for this. However, the observed differences do not suggest that Chopin would have wanted to significantly differentiate between the markings in these sections.
Taking into account the above, in the main text we combine the markings of GE1 and FE (wherever they are complementary) and supplement them in a few places in which they were omitted in both editions.

  • In FE all quavers written down on the top stave are provided with staccato dots (except the octaves at the beginning of the bars) as well as the R.H. quavers and semiquavers written down on the bottom stave in b. 114-118, 122 and 124.
  • In GE1 dots on the top stave are present in b. 117-118 and 122, while on the bottom one in b. 113-118, 122 and 124.
  • In GE2 dots are to be seen over a1 in b. 117 and on the bottom stave in b. 113-114, 116, 118, 120, 122 and 124.
  • In EE all a1 or b1 quavers were provided with dots (except the 2nd beat of b. 123) and the R.H. quavers and semiquavers on the bottom stave in b. 114, 116, 118, 122 and 124. EE1 also added a dot under the A quaver on the 2nd beat of b. 115 (most probably by mistake), which was removed in EE2.
