b. 11-16

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

These bars are marked in FCI in an abridged manner as a repetition of b. 3-8. The version of this fragment (appearing twice) differs both from b. 3-8 and 11-16 of the final version; however, the differences concern textural issues only – position and density of chords as well as assignment of notes to the right or left hand.

b. 25

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

d1 in chord in FCI

d1 in A (→FCGE, →FEEE)

..

The version of FCI featuring d1 (uncertain interpretation), hence perfect and not flatted fifth of the G7 chord, is naturally earlier and had already been abandoned by Chopin when A was being created (nothing points to an overlooked  – in the entire fragment, accidentals were inserted unusually meticulously; there are no oversights in this bar).

b. 32-33

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

In FCI, in the bottom R.H. voice the e1-b1 fifth is repeated until the end of b. 33. According to us, as was the case with the changes to the length of the phrase and to the top voice rhythm (see the notes above), it is also this harmonic version that deviates too much from the final shape of this section and cannot be considered an independent variant.
