In b. 51 and 53-54, A and all the remaining sources contain various inaccuracies concerning accidentals – oversights but also dispensable repetitions of accidentals. As the oversights are obvious, below you can find the overlooked accidentals we identified:
- in b. 51 in A (→FE→EE) the before b in the 2nd half of the bar was unnecessarily repeated. The accidental is also in GE, although Fontana omitted it in FC;
- in b. 53 all sources except FCI include an unjustified before g1;
- in b. 53-54 in A (→FC,FE) there are no naturals before a, while the before a1 in the 2nd half of b. 53 was unnecessarily repeated. In GE both necessary accidentals were added, and the superfluous one was removed; however, the necessary before d1 in b. 53 was removed too. EE supplemented the notation of FE so that each chord requiring accidentals is preceded by 3 naturals.
FCI reveals more oversights:
- no accidentals before the L.H. chords in the 2nd half of b. 51;
- no accidentals before the L.H. chords in the 1st half of the bar in b. 53; in turn, we can see 3 naturals before the 5th quaver;
- no before a in b. 54.
