Issues : Long accents

b. 67-68

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

Short accent in A1 (→FEEE) & GE2

 in GE1, literal reading

Long accent in GE1, possible interpretation

..

The interpretation of the mark of GE1, which resembles a long accent but goes beyond the bar line, is not obvious. One can interpret it as a short diminuendo hairpin, leading to  and corresponding to the  mark in b. 66. In the main text we give a short accent, introduced by Chopin in A1 (→FEEE), since, according to us, even if the mark in [A2], reproduced in GE1, resembled a long accent, it would have probably meant the same thing as the remaining accents in this section: see b. 60-64

b. 77-80

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

Long accents in A1, literal reading

Short accents in FE (→EE) & GE

..

These bars are not written out in A1, since Chopin marked them in an abridged manner as repetition of b. 61-64. Just like there, the accents in b. 77 and 80 may be considered long, although it is probably simply an inaccuracy of notation.
