b. 18-22

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

No markings in A (→FEEE)

Pedalling in FC (→GE1) & GE3

Pedalling in GE2

..

In the main text we give the pedalling entered by Chopin into FC (→GE1). The same applies to analogous b. 150-151 and 601-602, although the difference in the placement of the pedal release mark is noteworthy. GE2 shifted the  sign to bar 19, precisely after those analogous bars. GE3 reinstated the original version.

b. 40

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

 in A (→FEEE1EE2)

  in FC (→GE) & EE3

..

The missing  in A (→FEEE1EE2) was probably overlooked by Chopin: the bar closes the page, which favours distraction. The mark was added in FC (→GE) and EE3.

b. 60

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

in A (→FEEE)

in FC (→GE)

..

According to us, the  mark in A (→FEEE) is placed inaccurately: this four-bar section appears four times in total, and in the three remaining appearances the pedal release is marked at the beginning of the bar (b. 52, 184 and 192). Therefore, in the main text we give the mark written in FC (→GE), which was most probably also added by Chopin.
