b. 131-132

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

Just like in all similar situations, in the main text we give the notation of A (→FC), which is present also in GE2. The changes were introduced in the remaining editions: replacing both bars with one double bar in FE (→EE) and providing rests with digits cannot come from Chopin.

b. 136-168

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

Just like in b. 4-36, in the main text we keep the notation of the bars filled with rests used by Chopin in A (→FC). The majority of the editions complemented the notation with digits denoting the number of bars (1 or 2 in b. 155-156) or numbering the bars (1 or 1 2).

b. 263-264

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

Just like in b. 131-132, in the main text we keep the notation of the bars filled with rests, used by Chopin in A (→FC) and applied in GE2 too. The changes introduced in the remaining editions, i.e. replacing both bars with one double bar in FE (→EE) and providing the rests with digits, cannot come from Chopin.

b. 281-284

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

Small notes in A (→FCGE)

Regular font in FE (→EE)

..

The fact that the notes are written in normal font in FE (→EE) is a result of the engraver having misunderstood A. A similar situation can be found in b. 307-309, 383-386 & 409-411. Such mistakes can also be encountered in other Chopin's pieces, e.g. in the Mazurka in C major, Op. 24 No. 2, b. 70-88 or the Prelude in C minor, Op. 45, b. 79

b. 298

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

In some of the editions, the whole-bar rest was specified with the digit 1 – over each of the staves in GE1 and EE, between the staves in GE3.
