The version of FE must be a result of an overlooked note by the engraver, who was less careful this time (analogous b. 233 was reproduced correctly in FE, on the basis of the same notation of A). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE |

These bars are an exact repetition of b. 235-236, and the Chopinesque pedalling written there in FC (→GE1) is most probably inaccurate. Therefore, in the main text we suggest the markings given by Chopin in analogous b. 103-104. Such a revision was introduced already in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |

Just like in b. 235-238, the pair of two-bar hairpins was repeated in GE2 (→GE3) after the authentic marks in b. 103-106. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

The version of FE is almost certainly erroneous, in spite of the fact that it was proofread; originally, in FE this bar was identical to the next one, yet it was only the 3rd note that was corrected, perhaps due to misunderstanding Chopin's proof entry or due to an incomplete implementation of the proofreading. EE repeated the version of FE from before proofreading, which, unless it is an extraordinary coincidence, means that it was a change introduced in the last phase of proofreading. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Authentic corrections of FE , Partial corrections |

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

In the main text we give a mark, written by Chopin in FC (→GE1) in b. 239-240, of which the discussed bars are a repetition. In GE2 (→GE3) the mark was extended so that it fills two bars (from b. 690) after the authentic sign in analogous b. 107-108. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |
