Slurs

b. 456-457

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

Slurs to g2 in FE (→GE,EE)

Slurs to c3 suggested by the editors

..

The notation of the sources suggests that the slurs reach only the bottom note of the g2-c3 fourth. It is unjustified in terms of the pianistic reality, which is proven by, e.g. the notation of an abbreviated version of these motifs in bars 458-459 – the entire fourth is an integral part of the passage, both at the beginning and at the end. Due to the above reason, in the main text we lead the slurs to c3, which is confirmed by the notation of bars 464 and 468 and, in a way, also of bar 461.

b. 459-460

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

Slur to e1 in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur to bar 460 suggested by the editors

..

In analogous bars 467-468, the slur in a pianistically identical situation is led to the beginning of the bar. Therefore, it is likely that one of the versions is inaccurate. A longer slur is supported by the slur in the L.H., while a shorter slur could be justified by the presence of  in bar 460. However, the force of the latter is impaired by the double slur in bars 463-464, in which the quaver that ends the passage is also accented ( after ).
A similar divergence between the range of slurs can be observed between bars 463-464 and 471-472.

Longer slur in #E (→GE1GE2)

Shorter slur in EE & GE3

Average slur suggested by the editors

..

A comparison with similar motifs suggests that the slur encompassing the entire figure in this bar is probably inaccurate. It was deemed as such already in EE and GE3, which replaced it with a shorter one, probably modelled after the previous bar. In the main text, we give a slur reaching the topmost note of the bar, most frequent in analogous bars in the sources.

b. 462

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

No slur in FE (→GE1GE2)

Slur over triplet in EE

Longer slur in GE3

..

The missing slur must be an oversight. The slur was added in EE, yet it encompasses only the semiquaver triplet (its range is not entirely clear – the slur reaches slightly further than a similar slur in the previous bar). In the main text, we add a slur encompassing the entire figure like in the majority of analogous figures. The same slur was added also in GE3.
