Fingering written into FEH

Fontana's fingering in EE

Selected fingering from FEH

Some of the digits written in FEH in the fragment that starts in this bar (bars 372-379) bear a strong resemblance to Chopin's handwriting. In bar 372, one can also see that the person who wrote them was correcting another entry, which suggests a teacher's hand. It is difficult to carry out a reliable expert evaluation of such entries – e.g. we did not have the possibility to examine the physico-chemical properties of graphite, which could have helped to identify possible Chopinesque entries. Therefore, our choices, partially based on intuition, remain suggestions. In the main text, we include the digits that we consider to be possibly Chopinesque.
