A later start of the slur in GE3, although seemingly justified, is probably contrary to Chopin's final intention. The traces visible in FE prove that the four-bar slur starting from the 1st quaver resulted from proofreading – originally, these bars were provided with shorter slurs, out of which the first one, encompassing bar 496 only, most probably started after the 1st quaver. See also bars 500-503.
